Description

We’re looking for skilled attorney with a passion and curiosity for technology to join the CELA Experiences and Devices legal team to serve as trusted advisors for the Microsoft Office and M365 Product Groups, including core Office apps and service experiences in the role of Corporate Counsel.

The attorney filling this role will take on a broad and varied portfolio of legal work critical to supporting some of Microsoft’s most strategically important products and services, including counseling on privacy and data use, artificial intelligence (AI), marketing, copyright, regulatory and commercial compliance and transactional support for product engineering and business development teams. Legal Advice and Counsel

Acts of the primary legal contact in collaboration within the legal team with business clients in the Microsoft Office and M365 Product Groups, including core Office apps and services such as Word, PowerPoint, Copilot and OneNote, to understand technical engineering concepts and identify and anticipate legal risks related to product development and business strategy; Serves as a contributor to clients and colleagues about legal and related business matters regarding a wide range of general product development, privacy/data protection, AI, compliance, content moderation, marketing, accessibility, consumer protection, competition, and intellectual property issues to support Office consumer, enterprise products and services; Provide thought leadership and counseling on emerging issues privacy and responsible uses of data and AI technology; Demonstrate strong planning and organization skills, including proven ability to think strategically, help create and execute on plans to achieve both short-term and long-term results, and communicate with key legal and business stakeholders; Analyze and work to solve complex and cutting-edge issues; Interact with outside counsel to resolve and solve specific issues; Work effectively with colleagues within the E+D CELA organization and across CELA on projects and initiatives, and appropriately identify and engage stakeholders in CELA and business to escalate issues to; and Some drafting and negotiating of commercial contracts with a technology focus.

Operational Excellence

Develop and implement processes, templates and best practices, track projects and share knowledge across the wider Microsoft legal community. Provides input and continuous feedback to improve process efficiencies within role; identifies opportunities and tools to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness. Manages project work expenses according to budget and proposes efficiencies. Models compliance and maintains confidentiality, attorney-client privilege, privacy, and the security of data. Collaborates effectively within Legal and Corporate Affairs work group and direct business clients. Organizes issues and ideas in written and verbal communication.



Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 1+ year(s) experience as a practicing attorneyOR equivalent experience.Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.Experience supporting engineering and business teams, with a focus in technology and data uses Additional or Preferred Qualifications

Proven track record of excellent teamwork and collaboration across geographies and time-zones, particularly in the context of working for a US technology company

Legal Counsel IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $103,800 - $200,300 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,700 - $219,200 per year.
