Description

We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated attorney to support Microsoft’s growing infrastructure business. The CELA Infrastructure team has an immediate opening in the role of Principal Corporate Counsel, Datacenter Infrastructure Regulatory Compliance. This is a unique opportunity for an attorney to help Microsoft compliantly build and operate hyperscale infrastructure for its rapidly expanding global cloud.

This attorney will serve as trusted legal advisor to Microsoft’s infrastructure business and help ensure compliance with datacenter focused regulations governing Microsoft’s infrastructure and its license to operate.

The CELA Infrastructure team supports the Cloud Operations + Innovation organization (CO+I), the team behind one of the world’s largest cloud infrastructures, responsible for operating all Microsoft online products and services, including AI tools such as Copilot. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide. This is a fast-growing division that is investing in datacenter capabilities and innovative projects around the world that can truly make a difference.

Trusted legal advisor to the CO+I business team on regulations that apply to Microsoft’s data center infrastructure, including regulatory reporting requirements and cross-border regulations. Provide advice grounded in an understanding of how relevant laws and regulations may impact Microsoft’s data center infrastructure—both existing and future locations.Partner with a variety of Microsoft subject-matter experts (SMEs) to interpret regulatory compliance requirements and ensure Microsoft’s license to operate.Contribute to horizontal regulatory compliance initiatives in partnership with Government Affairs, commercial legal, marketing, and various cross-company SME teams.Partner with Microsoft’s Government Affairs teams to address regulations relevant for datacenters.Maintaining trusted advisor relationships with business clients and executives.



Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 4+ years experience as a practicing attorneyOR equivalent experience.Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.Experience at a law firm, government legal department, or an in-house legal department.Legal experience in the following areas: regulations focused on large-scale (e.g., data center) infrastructure, maintaining a license to operate for infrastructure, sustainability, safety, environmental, technology, trade, and/or cross-border regulations.

Legal Counsel IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $227,500 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $243,000 per year.
