Description
The Windows & Devices team is on a journey to deliver iconic end-to-end products across hardware, software, and services that people love and use every day. To realize this Windows needs to enable the creation of desirable and powerful devices that enable the experiences people want. Creating these new experiences and devices requires an obsession with bringing together the right experience with our passion to enable everyone to do and be their best. As a vital member of the Windows Silicon and Systems Integration (WSSI) Team, The Competitive Analysis SoC Architect will be responsible for researching power and performance across a variety of devices, workloads and use cases. The data and insights you generate in this role will help WSSI and the broader Windows and Devices organization understand how current and future devices stack up against the competition across key performance and power metrics. You will be a key contributor, performing power analysis at sub system level and collaborating with other architects in WSSI and the Surface team to define workloads, metrics, measurement methodologies that drive future platform targets and projections. There is a preference for this role to be based in Greater Seattle area/Redmond Campus for on-site lab activity.Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Characterize IP/SOC power and performance across a wide variety of workload/use-case types. Experience in a lab environment in debugging software and hardware issues and working with preproduction platforms. Develop and execute power and performance test plans across different device types from various vendors and operating systems. Create and maintain a database of power and performance metrics that can be a reliable source of truth on performance across competitive platforms and silicon
Qualifications
Required Qualifications7+ years of technical engineering experienceo OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
o OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience
o OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
3+ years of SoC (System-On-A-Chip), IP (Intellectual Property) or platform architecture experience with demonstratable understanding of power and performance evaluation with industry standard benchmarks for SoC IP building blocks (CPU/GPU/NPU/Memory Controller) in client SoCs.Demonstrated familiarity of OS fundamentals (memory management, scheduler, power management) and experience working with multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux, MacOS).Demonstrated experience working with pre-production silicon and platforms conducting power and performance analysis activities in a lab environment.

10+ years of technical engineering experienceOR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, OR related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experienceOR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, OR related field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experienceOR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, OR related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience.Familiarity with SoC performance benchmarking concepts and performance indicators in each of the following areas: graphics IP, CPU IP, SoCs and neural processing engines.Demonstrated experience with scripting languages bash/python/perl/ruby or others to drive automation and analysis tasks.Familiarity with AI frameworks and tools necessary to convert/run/optimize and analyze AI model performance across different hardware vendors.Demonstrated communication, collaboration and teamwork skills and ability to contribute to diverse and inclusive teams.Hardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
