Description
OverviewWe are hiring a Chief of Staff to the CVP of MAI Content Engineering at Microsoft — the ~500-person engineering organization building the content-driven, personalized experiences that make Copilot retentive and habit-forming. The org spans the U.S., Canada, China, and other international locations across the Copilot Discover product across surfaces .
The Chief of Staff is the operating backbone of this organization: a strategic operator at the intersection of engineering, product, and partner teams who ensures the org runs with clarity, speed, and execution discipline at scale. This is not a traditional program management role — it is a high-trust, high-leverage partnership with the CVP.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
Operating Cadence: Rhythm of Business - Own the operating cadence end-to-end — setting the execution tone for a 500-person engineering organization:Design and run staff meetings, execution reviews, metrics reviews, deep dives, and planning forumsEnsure every forum is decision-oriented, supported by strong pre-reads and clear agendasTrack decisions and follow-ups to ensure closure and accountabilityEvolve the cadence as the org’s needs change — the RoB is a living system, not a fixed calendarCross-Team Execution and Dependency Management-Maintain a clear picture of execution across a complex, multi-geography organization:Track major workstreams across the Copilot Discover product across surfaces Map and monitor cross-org dependencies with Copilot, Bing, Edge, and Windows organizationsSurface risks and delivery gaps early — before they become escalationsCoordinate across geographies to maintain execution coherence despite time zone and cultural complexityTriage escalations and incidents — exercise judgment on when to intervene, when to escalate, and when to let teams executeDeep Dive and Review Preparation-Elevate the quality of how the organization thinks and communicates:Own engineering review coordination — manage the review calendar, coordinate signups, and ensure presenting teams are well-prepared before they enter the roomEnforce clarity on problem statements, tradeoffs, and recommendations — no ambiguity in the roomMaintain templates and standards for review materials across the orgBe the quality bar — if material isn’t decision-ready, send it backExecutive Synthesis and Communication-Translate complexity into clarity for leadership:Synthesize discussions into clear summaries, decisions, and next steps — in writing, not just verballyPrepare executive updates for CVP-level and above audiencesConnect signals across meetings into a coherent view of progress, risks, and opportunitiesOffice Effectiveness-Make the CVP’s office a force multiplier:Act as a trusted proxy — represent the CVP’s perspective accurately in forums where they can’t be presentManage organizational budgets — headcount planning, budget tracking, vendor spend, purchasing, and resource allocationOwn business and financial acumen for the org — understand how engineering output connects to business outcomes; bring financial rigor to planning and investment decisionsFoster org health and culture — champion an inclusive, high-performing culture; drive offsites, team events, and org-wide moments that build connection across geographiesOwn partner and stakeholder management — maintain strong operating relationships with peer orgs and key stakeholders
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related rolesOR equivalent experience.Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 12+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related rolesOR Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 15+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related rolesOR equivalent experience.Proven experience operating at the VP or CVP level as a Chief of Staff, senior program leader, or equivalent role for a large engineering organizationExperience in large-scale consumer or platform engineering organizationsFamiliarity with content, AI/ML, or search/recommendation systems is a plusExceptional communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Business Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
