Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team is responsible for the full lifecycle of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure, spanning site selection, development, and operations. Our global footprint includes more than 400 datacenters in 34 countries, supported by over 165,000 miles of fiber optic cable. These facilities form the backbone of Microsoft Azure and are central to our commitment to reliable, secure, and sustainable digital infrastructure.

The Microsoft Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) team is charged with procuring high-quality carbon removal to meet Microsoft’s ambitious goal of becoming carbon negative by 2030. To this end, the CDR team seeks a high-performing, curiosity-driven individual to join our team as a Carbon Removal Buyer. This position will join one of our existing deal teams charged with originating high-quality, innovative carbon removal projects - and negotiating the transactions that will get those projects built. The ideal candidate will have procurement experience in carbon or other environmental markets, bring a commercial execution-oriented mindset, and take a hands-on approach to shaping CDR opportunities into creative, first-of-a-kind deals working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Execute all phases of sourcing strategy for nature-based and/or engineered carbon removal solutions, ranging from direct carbon removal procurement to strategic origination partnerships, and including identification, evaluation, and prioritization of opportunities.Structure and negotiate CDR offtake agreements for carbon credits that balance company risks and the first-of-its-kind nature of large-scale carbon credit purchasing.Develop subject matter expertise in carbon removal approaches, and track and analyze relevant global trends related to carbon removal, including technical innovations, deployment cycles, and regulatory developments.Review proposals for carbon removal projects, working closely with third-party advisors to ensure scientific/technical integrity throughout the procurement process and with colleagues to confirm fit with overall portfolio strategy.Produce internal and external presentations on specific procurement opportunities and general aspects of carbon removal to obtain necessary deal approvals and drive the industry forward.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 2+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR equivalent experience.Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 5+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR equivalent experience. Demonstrated experience negotiating business agreements and creating win-win scenarios. Demonstrated xperience negotiating long-term purchase agreements (e.g. offtakes) for environmental market products & services.Demonstrated knowledge and proven experience in carbon markets.Demonstrated experience working with carbon removal or other environmental attribute suppliers.Ability to analyze markets and industries to determine new opportunities and inform strategic direction.Ability to lead innovative programs across stakeholders in corporate procurement, legal, and finance to align compliance and execution.#COICareers | #EPCCareers | #DCDCareers

Sourcing Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
