Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team is responsible for the full lifecycle of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure, spanning site selection, development, and operations. Our global footprint includes more than 400 datacenters in 34 countries. These facilities form the backbone of Microsoft Cloud and AI products and are central to our commitment to deliver reliable, secure, and sustainable digital infrastructure.

As part of the CO+I Carbon-Free Energy Team, you will join a team of professionals responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and executing contracts for strategic carbon-free energy projects. The candidate will join the team delivering impactful results for Microsoft’s global carbon-free energy and datacenter growth strategy.

This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Redmond, WA, Atlanta, GA, San Antonio, TX, Phoenix, AZ, or Washington DC. Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates should relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location. This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100% from home.

Microsoft Cloud Operations & Innovation seeks a new Carbon-Free Energy Program Manager, focused on delivering on Microsoft's global carbon-free energy strategy. This role is primarily focused on supporting strategies in the APAC region with additional AMER and EMEA market engagement. The candidate will support and manage physical and financial carbon-free energy contract negotiations, including clean tariffs and direct datacenter energy supply. This role requires industry experience in energy markets that may include Singapore, Japan, Australia, India, South Korea, other APAC markets, AMER and EMEA. A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage internal and external relationships, navigate regulatory environments, and knowledge of current energy development requirements, to achieve impactful and timely results. The role will identify, negotiate, and execute carbon-free energy contracts to meet Microsoft's sustainability goals.

The candidate will have the ability to develop creative solutions that combine knowledge of regulated and deregulated power markets to deliver new carbon-free energy supply in priority regions. The candidate will need to understand the dynamics of energy markets and Microsoft’s own unique position in the energy sector. This necessitates that the candidate brings an innovative, collaborative presence to the role towards driving commercial & technology execution to realize business goals, lower costs, and meet sustainability targets.

Advance Microsoft's global carbon-free energy strategy as part of a collaborative and results-focused team.Support and negotiate carbon-free energy contracts in key markets to advance Microsoft's strategic priorities. Primary markets include: Singapore, Japan, Australia, India, South Korea, other APAC markets, and secondary market exposure in AMER and EMEA.Support and manage supplier relationships and strategic partnerships to identify, model, negotiate and execute PPAs from new carbon-free energy projects. Collaborate with teammates across the Microsoft Energy and Sustainability team, internal and external stakeholders to structure virtual, physical and direct energy supply structures in support of Microsoft's energy and sustainability needs. Present deals to internal business units for approval, clearly communicating the strategy, economics, and impact of each transaction.Business travel required (0% - 25%).

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 4+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR equivalent experience.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, engineering disciplines, business, or sustainability.  3-5 years of experience negotiating/developing renewable and/or carbon-free energy projects/contracts. Experience in some AMER energy markets (WECC, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SERC, LATAM, CANADA) Advanced commercial and technical analysis capabilities to support review of energy models, forward price curves, utility green/clean tariffs, and regulatory impacts.Possess an entrepreneurial, collaborative spirit and proven track record of project execution. Team player capable of adapting to ambiguous environments with cross-group collaboration and problem-solving abilities. Effective interpersonal and communications (verbal and written) skills.  Growth mindset with high attention to detail.Experience in energy project development.General understanding of data centers energy and capacity needs. Post-graduate degree in relevant fields a plus.

Sourcing Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
