Description
Microsoft Copilot Studio and Microsoft 365 Copilot are groundbreaking tools that leverage the power of large language models, combined with (real-time) enterprise business data to drive unparalleled innovations in productivity, including autonomous actions in business processes in the enterprise. As these agents proliferate, businesses face unprecedented challenges. These agents must collaborate seamlessly with humans, frequently using the same applications for collaboration and lines of business systems without introducing friction or security risk. Agents also require contextual, real-time data access to make decisions, yet must do so with the guardrails necessary to align with an organization’s risk tolerance.We are looking for Principal Applied Scientist to join our team. The role reports directly to the CTO and VP of the organization.
In this role, you will experiment with and fine-tuning models, to build end-to-end SaaS product scenarios enabling enterprise productivity and agents taking actions while ensuring enterprise security and governance capabilities for AI.
We are looking for an individual who has experience in collaborating with research and product engineering teams to deliver best of class innovative product solutions. This can range from alignments with stakeholders, working together to build and fine-tune models, developing advanced RAG techniques, to coming up with ways to build custom generative AI architectures for specific product needs.

Responsibilities include:
• Reviewing business and product requirements, incorporating research, and providing strategic direction for problem solving, and depending on situation also hands-on prototyping and applied science development techniques to create or develop novel applications of AI in products. You will also ensure scientific rigor, support the development of methods, and apply your expertise to support business impact.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to gather and understand user requirements and expectations. Seek and incorporate continuous feedback from users and stakeholders to iteratively improve designs and solutions.
• Documenting work and experimentation results (offline experimentation as well as in production online experimentation) and share findings to promote innovation. You will provide guidance when capturing processes and contribute to ethics and privacy policies related to research processes and data collection.
• Facilitate design meetings, creates design documents, and ensures alignment with project goals. Design system architecture that meets security, compliance, and scalability requirements.
• Lead implementation and deployment of solutions, ensuring they meet quality standards. Translate project vision into actionable milestones and guide the team in project estimation and planning.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)OR equivalent experience.5+ years of experience developing and deploying AI/ML products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.2+ years experience with transformer-based models (e.g., GPT, Llama).
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)OR equivalent experience.3+ years experience presenting at conferences or other events in the outside research/industry community as an invited speaker.5+ years experience conducting research as part of a research program (in academic or industry settings).5+ years experience creating publications (e.g., patents, libraries, peer-reviewed academic papers).5+ years experience developing and deploying GenAI products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.
Applied Sciences IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
