Description

The AI Platform organization at Microsoft builds the end-to-end Azure AI stack/PaaS and is core to Azure’s innovation and differentiation, as well as all of Microsoft’s flagship products, from Office to Teams, to Xbox. We are the team building Azure OpenAI, Azure ML, AI Services, and the global Azure AI infrastructure for running the largest AI workloads on the planet.

The Multimodal Intelligence team within the AI Platform is hiring a Senior Applied Scientist to develop cutting-edge multimodal large language model solutions. This role involves leveraging and enhancing OpenAI models to provide frictionless solutions for our customers to leverage multimodal large language models. You will find great R&D opportunities to work with industry leading large language models and build impactful products for numerous Azure customers and Microsoft products. You will work as part of a team that brings together talent in the areas of large language model, software engineering, computer vision, natural language understanding, and speech recognition.

Architect, design, and develop the next generation of multimodal large language model solutions. Collaborate with researchers, applied scientists, and machine learning engineers to design and build these solutions. Engage with customers and product managers to understand requirements and iterate on the product. Leverage and enhance OpenAI models and other large language models to deliver world-class AI quality.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)

OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

OR equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

3+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: large language models, natural language processing, computer vision, and machine learning. 3+ years of programming experience in Python. 2+ years of experience with at least one deep learning toolkit, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow Extensive experience in large language model development. Extensive experience in multimodal embedding development. Master’s or PhD (or candidates) in Computer Science or related fields, with a focus on one or more of the following: large language models, natural language processing, computer vision, and machine learning. 3+ years of programming experience in C# (preferred), C++, or Java, with solid engineering practices. Strong software development skills and an aptitude for software design, coding, and quality. Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.

Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
