Description
Microsoft Ads Fraud Detection operates at the intersection of Security and Machine learning. We design and develop fraud detection algorithms that run at webscale in real time and protect billions of dollars of revenue from fraudsters. Our algorithms need to run in a high precision/ high recall operating point.We are always in a race with fraudsters to design new ways to detect fraud.
This role is available in Mountain View, CA or Redmond, WA.
As an Applied Scientist II-Web Security Research on our team, you'll be at the forefront of web security research. You will develop a deep understanding of advertising eco-system at an individual request level and exploit that knowledge systematically to identify new signals that can set fraudsters apart. You will investigate complex and evolving attacks and develop signals to detect them. Given the large surface area that needs to be protected, you will create tools to allow you to scale and drive high impact.

Research and develop methods to collect signals relevant for fraud detection from different surfaces (mobile/desktop browsers, apps, and browser extensions). Devise methods to detect automation tools like Playwright, nefarious VPNs, Botnets and Malware. Discover and convert adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures into actionable signals. Stay updated on new cybersecurity trends and understand various ad implementations and attacks. Engage with wider security community to the advance and enhance state of the art. Convert what you learn into tools that multiplies the impact for the whole team. Embody our Culture and Values
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or Computer Engineering, AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., web security or fraud detection)OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, or Computer Engineering AND 1+ year(s) related experience(e.g., web security or fraud detection)OR Doctorate in Computer Science, or Computer Engineering, or related field (e.g., web security or fraud detection)OR equivalent experience.2+ year(s) of experience with Java Script debugging, JavaScript development, Chrome Debugger, Developer tools, App development for iOS and Android, UX debugging.1+ year(s) of experience in Research in security related domain.Other Requirements:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications:
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Practical experience or Masters/Doctorate in Web Security or Privacy. Applied Sciences IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
