Description
Oversee and, where necessary, drive design and development activities for the team. Act as the final decision-maker for major technical issues and prioritize efforts to address them. Escalate technical issues to relevant engineering leaders as appropriate and guide major technical and product strategies. Direct large-scale projects through the Product Life Cycle (PLC) and manage execution on product development and launch activities, with a focus on sustaining a culture of reliable execution. Coach and mentor engineers on the team while developing comprehensive career plans for all team members.Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. With your extensive technical expertise you take initiative to independently design and implement new systems, designing, implementing, and testing multiple features with little or no direction from tech lead or manager. You collaborate with key stakeholders to determine future direction of work.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. 8 years of experience in software development.5 years of experience leading ML design and optimizing ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning). 2 years of experience with GenAI techniques (e.g., LLMs, Multi-Modal, Large Vision Models) or with GenAI-related concepts (e.g., language modeling, computer vision). 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. 3 years of experience working in a matrixed organization. Experience contributing to an open source project.
