Description

Help customers succeed with BigLake. Drive project work across Google's production environment, the open-source Apache Iceberg ecosystem, and open-source data processing engines such as Apache Spark and Trino. Lead execution of projects spanning multiple quarters and engineers, influencing products within Data Cloud such as BigQuery, Dataproc, Dataflow, and others. Design, implement, test, and review new BigLake features while contributing to Google Cloud's overall engineering goal and Apache Iceberg roadmap, ensure quality, engineering excellence, and operational stability of BigQuery and BigLake.

In this role, you will help customers succeed with BigLake by developing and enhancing scalable catalog APIs, advancing open standards, and shaping reliable data lake house solutions that delight major Google Cloud customers.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience. 5 years of experience with software development. 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture. Experience with the following: C++, Java, and Performance Optimization.

Preferred qualifications: Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field. 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role. Experience in one or more of the following areas such as Database Internals, Open Source Contributor, Apache Iceberg, Apache Spark, Presto. Experience working within the open data processing ecosystem (Apache Iceberg or other open table formats, or with Apache Spark, Trino, or other data processing engines). Experience with both Google's production environment and open-source development workflows. Experience owning performance work streams.

Extended Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience. 5 years of experience with software development. 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture. Experience with the following: C++, Java, and Performance Optimization.
