Description
Serve as the technical authority and chief architect for the Production Engineering function, defining and driving the technical roadmap in alignment with the strategic outlook across all aspects of operations - from SLI/SLO, Playbooks, Alerts, Logging, and remediations. Develop best practices for engineering operations, and be responsible for developing, and deploying them. Lead the critical organizational effort to address incident response, moving beyond local team initiatives to driving systemic improvements across the distributed GDC product. Maintain cross-functional partnerships with peer engineering teams and external partner teams to ensure alignment in technical decisions. Drive technical excellence and growth across the organization through effective technical mentoring, coaching, and setting the technical bar, emphasizing technical depth and a data-driven cultureAs the Principal Engineer for Production Engineering for Google Distributed Cloud (GDC), you will be the technical leader for the Production Engineering function responsible for the operational excellence of GDC. The core mission to drive the technical execution and strategic roadmap for robust, reliable production operations, ensuring the operability, performance, and security of GDC within the constraints of private, on-premise, and air-gapped environments
In this role, you will be responsible for delivering the feature velocity and upgrade experience that customers expect, operating within the unique constraints of private, on-premise, and air-gapped environments. You will report to the Senior Director of Production Engineering and act as the primary technical authority, driving strategy, standards and architecture in connected and airgapped environments.
Additionally, you will partner closely with Directors and Vice Presidents across the team and within Google Cloud, to drive engineering satisfaction, and uphold GDC’s high bar in operations quality. You will own driving the requirements for the systems underlying your team's infrastructure.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $294,000-$414,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field. 15 years of experience in software development for technical infrastructure. Experience architecting and debugging distributed systems across both connected and air-gapped environments. Experience owning the full software lifecycle, specifically for systems that interface with hardware and GPU configurations.Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field. Experience with production operations or site reliability methodologies, including experience architecting systems that drastically reduce mean time to detect and resolve. Experience leveraging AI/Machine Learning models to automate problem detection and accelerate root-cause analysis in production. Expertise in infrastructure technologies and trends, including public and private cloud, GPU, virtualization, and containerization. Excellent technical and organizational leadership skills, with the ability to resolve systemic technical problems and drive alignment across large, cross-functional teams.
