Estimated salary: $338,500
Range: $278,000 - $399,000

Description

Lead a software engineering team of software engineers across sites, and oversee a portfolio of GCS components.

Work cross-functionally within the broader engineering community and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to deliver solutions for our customers. Partner closely with cross-functional Leads to define the future outlook, strategy, and solutions for GCS and Google Storage. Collaborate with multiple stakeholders across Google, including executive leaders within Google Cloud to influence infrastructure offerings. Be a strategic thought leader and work closely with customer-facing Googlers, partners, and customers themselves, to ensure we continue to meaningfully reduce friction and thus drive adoption.

Google Cloud Storage (GCS) provides object storage service for external Google Cloud Platform (GCP) customers and for internal large-scale Google products like GMail, Photos, Drive and YouTube.

GCS Metadata and Data Management is a GCS pillar with mature and high functioning teams. Both teams have launched major platform changes which scaled GCS foundations - durability, reliability and performance - by orders of magnitude. As Director, you will be responsible for driving the next generation of strategic Spanner-related foundational initiatives. The pillar is responsible for a set of critical services that help create a highly durable GCS service with durability guarantees and enable GCS to provide consistency. Some functions of these services include garbage collection and data rebalancing, policy conformance and geo diversity requirements, and metadata management using Spanner.

With the growth in Generative AI, Data Analytics, and in general the cloud business, there are challenging problems to be solved in improving performance, availability, and programmability. You will help set the long-term strategy for GCS, drive execution, and will be critical to GCS success.
