Description
Initiate and drive projects that enable scaled policy enforcement to implement next-generation safety mitigations. Guide engineering and research teams in building sophisticated technical solutions, from fine-tuning techniques to classifier-based guardrails. Partner with Policy, Engineering, Product and Legal to set precedents and create robust, scalable, and defensible principles for new AI capabilities. Analyze the evolving AI risk and harms landscape. Anticipate and address risks, behavior, and adversarial techniques, translating these insights into a proactive mitigation agenda. Become the go-to person for issues related to application of novel policies, limitations and use domain knowledge to provide partners with insights and analyses to address gaps. Perform on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis, including weekend coverage/holidays. Review or be exposed to sensitive or violative content as part of core role.Trust & Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic team-player with a passion for doing what’s right. You work globally and cross-functionally with Google engineers and product managers to identify and fight abuse and fraud cases at Google speed - with urgency. The Trust and Safety team's mission is to protect Google's users by ensuring online safety in both core and emerging areas. This includes fighting abuse and fraud across Google products.
As Principal, Gen AI Trust and Safety, you will be a thought leader responsible for architecting our approach to the most complex risks associated with cutting-edge AI. You will move beyond day-to-day analysis to define the long-term strategic roadmap for GenAI safety. Your role will be to anticipate risks and threats, influence policy evolution, develop novel evaluation paradigms, and inform Google's product and research direction to ensure safety is a foundational, non-negotiable component of our AI systems.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $171,000-$248,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.10 years of experience in data analytics, trust and safety, policy, or related fields.
Preferred qualifications: Master's or PhD in relevant field.
Experience with machine learning. Experience in SQL, building dashboards, data collection/transformation, visualization/dashboards, or experience in a scripting/programming language (e.g. Python).
Experience working with engineering and product teams to create tools, solutions, or automation to improve user safety.
Experience working closely with policy teams.
Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence cross-functionally at various levels.
Extended Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.10 years of experience in data analytics, trust and safety, policy, or related fields.
