From creating experiments and prototyping implementations to designing new architectures, our research scientists work on real-world problems that span the breadth of computer science, such as machine (and deep) learning, data mining, natural language processing, hardware and software performance analysis, improving compilers for mobile platforms, as well as core search and much more.
As a Research Scientist, you'll also actively contribute to the wider research community by sharing and publishing your findings, with ideas inspired by internal projects as well as from collaborations with research programs at partner universities and technical institutes all over the world.
Our technology is focused on surface code error correction implemented using superconducting quantum bit architectures. The Numerical Modeling team's mission is to develop and leverage numerical physical models to comprehensively and accurately predict device performance. Our team is seeking a skilled theoretical physicist with expertise in neutral atom quantum computing and Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) physics to help us expand our predictive modeling capabilities to encompass various quantum computing platforms. In this role, you will be responsible for developing models that can accurately forecast quantum error correction error rates as these platforms increase in scale.
The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $161,000-$239,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: PhD degree in Physics, Quantum Information, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 2 years of experience leading a research agenda. Experience with the physics of neutral atom quantum computing (i.e., neutral atom, Rydberg atoms, atomic physics, AMO physics). Experience with software development and simulating quantum systems. Experience in theoretical quantum physics (e.g., quantum mechanics, quantum field theory, condensed matter physics). One or more scientific publication submission(s) for conferences, journals, or public repositories.Preferred qualifications: Experience with C++ or other programming languages. Experience with quantum error correction (QEC) experimental implementations.
Experience in software engineering best practices. Familiarity with quantum information theory and quantum error correction.
Extended Qualifications
