The Boeing Safety, Security, and Airworthiness (SS&A) organization is looking for an Entry Level (Level 1) or Associate (Level 2) Airplane Safety Engineer to join their Airplane Safety Engineering Team within Enterprise Safety Mission Assurance in Everett, WA. Our team is actively engaged with airplane programs that currently include 777-9, 777-8 Freighter, and future product development programs.

As an Airplane Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for working cross functionally to ensure airplane level safety analysis are appropriately conducted. Understanding the complex integration of airplane systems, human factors, and airplane integration into the operational environment is required in this role. The Airplane Safety deliverables directly feed airplane compliance and require an extreme attention to detail as well as a healthy engineering curiosity. Our team fosters strong partnerships with customers and program leaders across diverse engineering disciplines. Primary responsibilities:

Contributes by documenting safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standardsExecuting airplane level analyses within the Preliminary Aircraft Safety Assessment and Aircraft Safety Assessment (e.g., Aircraft Functional Hazard Assessment (AFHA), Combined Functional Failure Effects (CoFFE), Common Resource Analysis, Multi-Functional Fault Tree Analysis (MFTA), Functional Design Assurance Level (FDAL) , Common Mode Assessment (CMA), Particular Risk Analysis (PRA), and Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA))Providing safety design and analysis expertise to program stakeholders and leadershipValidating and verifying airplane level safety requirementsDeveloping certification strategies for systems and airplane level safety issuesRepresenting ASE in airplane level design trade studies, coordination of safety analyses, and functional integration assessmentsEnsuring adequate redundancy and physical separation of critical systemsLeading airplane level safety analyses like Runway Excursion or Airplane Common Mode to ensure integration across multiple functional systemsUtilize Model Based System Engineering tools to analyze architectures/designs and develop safety deliverables

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science1+ years of experience in airplane systems design, analysis, or systems integration (e.g. flight controls, hydraulics, avionics, fuels, etc.). This qualification can also be fulfilled by an aerospace/mechanical/systems engineering capstone project, research, internship, or co-op. Strong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work effectively with diverse engineering teamsIntrinsic aptitude for taking initiative, leading cross functional teams and complex projectsAbility to take ownership of work activities to ensure they are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely mannerLevel 2: 2+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

1+ years of experience performing and/or reviewing system safety analyses or studies 1+ years of experience with commercial airplane certification including support to regulator-facing forums 1+ years of working knowledge of Functional Hazard Analyses (FHA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Particular Risk Assessment (PRA) and Fault Trees Analysis (FTA) and/or System Safety Assessments (SSA) 1+ years of experience developing/applying aviation related system safety analysis methods such as System Safety Risk Assessments, Fault Tree Analysis, and/or Functional Hazard Assessment Operational experience and/or Pilot’s license Experience solving complex, ambiguous engineering problems within an aerospace design environment Familiarity with 14CFR Part 25.1309, SAE ARP-4754, and SAE ARP-4761

Summary Pay Range:

Entry Level (Level 1): $76,500 - $103,500Associate (Level 2): $94,350 - $127,650
