The 737 Payloads Team within Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking Interiors Certification Engineers andInteriors Certification Plan Owners(mid-level or senior) to join our certification teams in Renton, WA.

The Certification Plan Owners and Certification Engineer work closely together; team placement will be determined by candidate qualifications.

The Payloads Organization is responsible for everything you see when you fly; and much of which you don’t. The Interiors of the airplane, along with the cargo compartments, exterior markings, associated systems, and cabin safety all make up Payloads. We are how our airline customers fulfill their mission and represent their brand and shape how the public experiences flight. Our organization is a fast paced, dynamic environment, which pulls from many engineering backgrounds.

These positions are dynamic, which requires an ability to clearly communicate technical and non-technical issues. The positions require the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks using project management and time management skills in support of testing, certification, and airplane delivery schedules.

In this role, you will be responsible for statement of work that spans the product lifecycle from engaging with customer requests through supporting post-delivery changes. Your work will include the need to interface with Design Approval Engineers (DAE), Engineering Unit Members (E-UM), Regulatory Administration, Production Engineering, program/product teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions through the cabin safety certification processes.

Payloads is seeking candidates with experience in any of the following areas:

Engineering support and project leadership within a certification system

Strong communication skills, including technical writing

Validating/demonstrating compliance to regulatory requirements

Direct engagement working with/for aerospace suppliers, regulators or airlines

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Mid-Level and Senior Interiors Certification Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

Certification Plan Owner

Reviews type design change forms

Collaborates with DAEs to characterize integrated changes, and prepare executive summaries to support aircraft certification

Coordinates with design teams and E-UMs to plan and lead certification activities and issue resolutions

Ensures on-time, first-pass certification plan quality and tracking the plan through aircraft certification

Interiors Certification Engineer

Develops, integrates, and documents interior payload system certification requirements

Performs or oversees approval of analyses and test/inspection results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications

Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort

Works with design engineers on showing compliance to the FAA regulations, developing/using issue papers, equivalent level of safety etc.

Works with or potentially as an FAA designee for interior crashworthiness

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)

5+ years of related work experience

5+ years of experience in aerospace engineering (design criteria and certification processes)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

5 + years of experience in program or project management, leading project and/or program proposals of varying complexity (including: development and execution of schedule milestones, resource assessments, risk and/or issues management, etc.)

Strong understanding and demonstrated certification experience with FAA Title 14 Part 25 and/or EASA equivalent

Experience working certification and configuration management issues

Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Designated Engineering Representative (DER), Engineering Unit Members (E-UM), Design Approval Engineer (DAE), Certification Plan Owner (CPO), Design Engineer experience

Demonstrates good problem-solving skills and critical thinking

Summary pay range for mid-level (level 3) : $117,900 – $144,100

Summary pay range for senior level (level 4): $143,100 – $174,900
