The Boeing Company is looking for a Development Specialist (Tooling A) to join our Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT&E) team in Tukwila, WA.

Position Responsibilities:

Obtain daily work by interfacing with machine operators, leads and tool engineers, to ensure that the special cutters are available

Coordinate with machine operators in the development of special cutting tools and recommendations of cutter speeds and feeds

Work with vendors, in evaluating new cutters (e.g., carbide indexable, coatings)

Coordinate and interface with outside organizations (e.g., tool engineering, planning, metallurgy lab), to troubleshoot and resolve cutting tool machining problems

Operate Autocad computer software to design and define special coated tools, per engineer drawings and Boeing (BAC) specifications

Assist manufacturing shops by observing setup and operation of various milling machines for evaluation of cutting tool problems (e.g., tool geometry, chip flow, changes needed)

Coordinate and work with Tool Grind, fill out Tool Grind Request Orders for the purpose of developing new tools

Use various types of precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers and height gage)

Maintain a file of vendors and suppliers, with names and phone numbers of persons of contact and catalogs, updating information

Maintain and update files with information pertaining to coded cutters

Communicate with fellow workers or supervisor when assistance is needed or a problem arises

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

5 + years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, with the ability to visualize three-dimensional shapes from two-dimensional views and understand symbols, flag notes, and general notes

5 + years of experience identifying discrepancies by gathering information from multiple sources, such as drawings, specifications, and shop communications

5 + years of experience operating computing equipment to access and input job information, including drawings and specifications

5 + years of experience using various precision measuring tools and test equipment, with the ability to accurately interpret results

5 + years of experience with software applications for developmental, prototyping, and production purposes

5 + years of experience in servicing multiple customers and managing tasks amidst frequent interruptions

5 + years of experience of machine shop theory, procedures, and the machinability of materials

Ability to assess the completeness and correctness of work according to specified instructions, drawings, and specifications

Effective written communication skills for creating reports, documentation, and maintaining records

Strong problem-solving skills to address issues with internal and external customers and suppliers

Capability to work independently while coordinating daily tasks with others to align priorities

Proficient in mathematics, including practical math, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry

Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in work instructions and computer data

Ability to efficiently plan and organize work sequences

Shift:

This position is primarily for 1st shift; however, your shift is subject to change based on business needs and contractual requirements

Union:

This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinists (IAM-751) Collective Bargaining agreement.

Summary Pay Range: $35.00/hour to start for new union members, with the potential to earn up to $56.97/hour for current union members
