This position is for a Research Software Development Engineer role within MSR's Ability team. The Ability team conducts research aimed at developing innovative technologies that extend the capabilities of and enhance quality of life for people with disabilities (long-term, temporary, or situational). Our mission is to conduct foundational, user-oriented research to understand the tech-related challenges and needs of people

As an RSDE, you will work collaboratively with researchers on the Ability team to develop software prototypes and infrastructure that supports the team's research agenda, including creating software prototypes for research studies, working with Microsoft's product teams to facilitate technology transfer from research, and/or creating apps or open source software for direct public release. RSDEs will also have many opportunities for creative leadership and career development, including helping shape the team's research agenda, attending professional conferences and co-mentoring interns.
Required: A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline. Required: 10 or more years professional software development experience in back-end and/or front-end platforms (e.g., C/C++, C#/Java, Javascript/Python). Up to 4 years of graduate school in computing can count toward this experience total.
