If you're eager to dive into the world of AI and machine learning, this is the job for you. Our team is at the forefront of AI research using deep neural networks (RNN) to translate more than 60 human languages. We transform the research into a highly scalable and available cloud service that powers Bing translate, Office translate, Cortana, Microsoft translator apps and Skype Translator. This team is a unique combination of 'research' and 'product' not seen at many other places. We have a lofty goal of breaking the language barrier and we have a lot of work left to do. We're a small, agile team, light on process, big on autonomy. We're currently hosted in Autopilot but have started moving to Azure and Kubernetes. This introduces architectural changes to our service and new hot technologies to our stack (K8S, .Net core, Docker). This position is focused on the backend service that hosts the translation models. It involves solving runtime problems such as scale up and out, performance, memory usage, scheduling, queuing while maintaining key metrics like latency, throughput and availability. There will also be opportunity to collaborate with our researchers on NLP problems like tokenization of sentences, safe translations, tag consistency in output and other pre and post processing steps. 3+ years software development experience, with distributed systems and .Net Bachelor degree or higher in Computer Science/Software Engineering, or related fieldAdditional qualifications: Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, micro-services Strong problem-solving skills Write clean, well-tested code, designed to work at scale Ability to manage competing priorities and schedules Desire to fix problems you didn't cause Adaptable communication skills able to talk to researchers, developers, pm's and customers.
