Search engines have evolved from just providing a ranked list of web-pages to providing rich intelligent answers and delightful user experiences. Understanding the intent of the query is fundamental to the success of the whole experience that the user sees (e.g. when a user searches for apple, do they mean the fruit or the company?). For a query, maybe the user just wants an immediate answer. Maybe this answer should contain an image/video or be simply an image/video. Maybe this answer should be composed from disparate content types from the web. Maybe there are multiple correct answers or no correct answer at all.
