What does the Lookout team do? The Lookout team monitors the global Amazon network and customer application traffic to detect Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) and other application attacks. Every second of every day, our systems gather telemetry from thousands of routers, customer applications, and internal service logs, analyzing it to detect anomalies and identify top talkers. When our detection algorithms identify malicious traffic, we notify users and initiate mitigations. Lookout powers the DDoS detection behind AWS Shield, protecting customers using services such as Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, Amazon CloudFront, Amazon Route53, and others. What challenges does Lookout tackle? Lookout collects and analyzes data from thousands of sources and must be highly available, as it is most important when networks or services are under duress.
