Are you passionate about protecting democratic processes, cybersecurity, and defending against nation state attacks by leveraging the law to secure those processes globally? Microsoft Corporate, Legal and External Affairs (CELA) group has an immediate opening for an experienced attorney to join the Customer Security and Trust legal team, with a focus on supporting Microsoft's Digital Diplomacy team, and its Defending Democracy initiatives. The attorney in this role will help advance key issues in protecting the electoral system and other democratic processes, focus on cybersecurity policy and law, and provide counsel to a fast-moving international team of policy and business experts. This role will engage in legal issues around defending against and mitigating nation state cyberattacks and provide general advice on a range of cybersecurity issues. This role may also provide some general business legal support to our Digital Diplomacy team and other teams in the Customer Security and Trust

Provide counsel to Microsoft's Digital Diplomacy team across a range of cybersecurity related initiatives, including the Defending Democracy Program. Provide legal support for initiatives aimed at advancing security in the democratic process, both inside and outside Microsoft. Work with a team engaged on nation state cybersecurity activities to help leverage laws or technology to protect our customers and the computing ecosystem. Support public policy teams as they work to advance cybersecurity initiatives around the world, addressing legal questions as they arise. Provide cybersecurity legal counsel
JD, outstanding academic credentials and an active license to practice law 5 years' experience as a practicing attorney, with experience in election law or cybersecurity Excellent analytical, writing, and oral communication skills effective with both lawyers and non-lawyers Sound and practical business judgment, ability to think strategically, and desire to establish a "trusted advisor" relationship with key business clients Comfort in working with multiple attorneys across different legal portfolios (cybersecurity, business, technology) in a dynamic environment where issues evolve rapidly Ability
