Teams who have learned to embrace open source as a set of best development practices are now looking with great interest at inner source as they want to use the same approach and tools they have grown accustomed to for their internal and proprietary efforts. The 1ES (One Engineering System) team is bootstrapping an Inner Source Initiative to make inner source pervasive across the company and we are looking for a program manager to be a part of this journey. This newly founded team has very broad support from engineers across the company as well as top executives. The broader 1ES team is building the next generation of tools and practices to make engineers across Microsoft more productive and help them focus on building great software. This role is part of an initially small team tasked with bootstrapping, piloting, and ultimately scaling inner source across the company. You will initially focus on baselining current efforts, finding partner teams across the company, articulating in detail the inner source business rationale and operational roadmap, and understanding opportunities and risks. Qualifications Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or human factors design Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals 3+ years in program management or software engineering within a large organization or comparable experience 3+ years demonstrated and continuous engagement with open source, possibly at the contributor level Strong oral and written communication skills Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
