In September 2018, we presented to Satya our bold vision for what a coherent, universal search solution for Microsoft's most important productivity apps would look like. Our vision proposed Search as a top-level product feature (literally, as you you'll soon start seeing a prominent search box appear in the top headers of our major apps ). The feedback from Satya was very positive, and "Microsoft Search" was born. This is Day 1 for what will be a huge cross-org, cross-product initiative. I can't overstate how important and critical this initiative is for the company. On top of building universal search, we're also rebuilding SharePoint Search in Substrate. This is a big, technical cross-org undertaking but has huge payoffs so it's well worth it. We're just starting to ship the first pieces of this effort and have most of the mountain ahead of us. If you love large-scale, architecturally-intensive projects, this is the project for you.
We're looking for a Technical Principal PM to own the Search Platform/Index area (part of the broader Substrate Search team that also powers search for Outlook, Teams, Cortana, etc). It's going to require technical horsepower, great cross-team collaboration, and a love for really hard projects. This person will need to utilize the unique strengths and diversity of their team to really bring the team together to deliver. We speak in APIs, performance percentiles, SSR gains, COGS, among other geeky things.
