The main responsibilities for this multidisciplinary role include: Counseling clients and providing subject matter expertise on open source. Advising and coaching clients on open source licensing, compliance, strategy, engagement approaches, and the company's open source policies and best practices. Representing Microsoft in open source foundations, committees, and communities. Working with engineering groups to help Microsoft engage in open source at scale. Providing frontline legal and business counseling to engineering and program manager clients in the Developer Tools and Services business,
An attorney with open source experience is highly desired with: An interest or working knowledge of copyright, software licensing, patents, and non-profit corporate governance. Experience in product development legal support and technology transactions. Legal experience as a practicing attorney. Strong negotiation and diplomatic skills. Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse groups and communities. Excellent communication and drafting skills.
