Join the Xbox Human Interface Devices Team and make your mark on the coolest gaming platform and entertainment system today. We are looking for an experienced and creative Senior Engineer with expertise in Mechanics who has a proven track record of developing complex high volume consumer products.

The successful candidate will have the ability to lead System Design for Stress to ensure system- and sub-system level mechanical and optomechanical design is carried out with the correct mechanics, reliability and materials considerations. A strong mix of technical breadth and depth is desired to tie electronics, optics, software and mechanical assemblies into compelling consumer experiences. Five to ten years of experience in solving stress related issues in design of consumer electronics products is required. A track record of innovation and experience in mechanics of materials, drop and other reliability simulations in consumer electro and/or nonlinear structural simulation is required for this position.

The successful candidate should have 5+ years of experience in design of mechanical, electronic or optical products where mechanics and materials play a critical role, with at least three years in the area of consumer products. A track record of innovation and experience in stress analysis, materials engineering, mechanics and/or optomechanics to achieve cost targets is desired. Familiarity with optomechanical and/or thermal design is preferred.

Some international travel to support design and manufacturing activities is required.

Responsibilities:

1. System design owner for stress related issues in the product and ensuring that the design is robust against environmental and usage stresses
2. Analysis and simulation for gaining insight into the effect of stress (drop, operation, thermal cycling, etc.) and materials, and Experimental validation using strain gaging and mechanical testing methodologies
3. Influence broader development team (ME, thermal, optical, IC packaging, EE and audio) to get it right the first time
4. Develop specifications for ME and Optical design and ensure that Optomechanical and Structural requirements are met at component, module and system level
Qualifications:
- A deep understanding in more than three of the following areas: materials, mechanics, thermal engineering, design, optomechanics, and simulation methodologies
- Ph.D or M.S. in Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field
- Subject matter expertise in the following areas
Mechanics of materials
Stress analysis
Experimental Property Characterization - polymer, metal
Linear and non-linear finite element analysis (FEA), especially shock and drop
- Demonstrated experience in integrating with cross functional groups including manufacturing, test, reliability, and industrial design
- Proven ability to apply critical thinking in complex situations and solve problems methodically
- Capable of applying Design-of-Experiments concepts to develop alternative designs and analyze experimental data
