The Strategic Sourcing Group is a pivotal team within the Manufacturing and Supply Chain (MSC) Organization. MSC is part of the Devices and Services division in Microsoft.

This Tier 1 Sourcing Manager role will be directly involved in further developing Microsoft's hardware muscle by managing the commercial relationships with some of our strategic CM/ODM hardware manufacturing and service partners. This role will have in-depth knowledge of Tier 1 CM and ODM services, overall supply chain operations, and have end-to-end product development lifecycle expertise. The role will interact with senior level executives internally and externally, so strong business acumen and the capability to articulate strategy along with strong industry intelligence are critical.
Success in the role will be evaluated based on successful Tier 1 strategy execution, competitiveness of negotiated manufacturing and service costs, health of business relationships, and Tier 1 performance.

Primary responsibilities include:

Transformation Cost Ownership: Own the entire RFP/RFQ process and the transformation cost and contractual negotiations for assigned programs in order to achieve best-in-class pricing.
Develop and execute a market leading Tier 1 sourcing strategy via full market knowledge, supplier rationalization, predictable and industry leading commodity pricing plan, and total cost of ownership (TCO) cost modeling through transparent supplier relationship management
Deliver most aggressive and closest-to-the-pin costing and projections, with the ability to standup to the most aggressive alternatives, doubts, and scrutiny
Drive change management to continuously improve efficiency and performances via repeatable processes, people growth, and elimination of work duplication
Drive budget compliance while maintaining solid relationships with internal teams as well as manufacturing service providers.
Serve as key escalation channel responsible for continuity of supply risk.
Account Management: Lead and manage global account relationships with executive and senior management levels from EMS companies as well as provide strategic business leadership, negotiations management, and execution of regular business reviews.
Business Development: In new hardware or technology spaces, drive supplier selection through initiation of discussions, negotiation of master contracts and non-disclosure agreements, and work with the development teams to assess technological and manufacturing capabilities and overall 'fit' for Microsoft.
Organizational Leadership: Collaborate and coordinate with cross-functional teams and other Sourcing leaders to ensure our strategy includes all appropriate business opportunities and to drive strategy adoption towards alignment of the supplier roadmap.

Functional Expectations/Experiences:

Required minimum of 6 years' direct experience in Tier 1 strategic sourcing in the OEM consumer electronics industry, AND/OR as a Commercial Account Manager in a world-leading Contract Manufacturer, or Original Design Manufacturer side of the industry.
MBA or Equivalent Experience, preferably with Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Must be a business professional with strong engineering expertise.
Solid experience in complex, large contract and price negotiations.
Executive/Sales presence and professionalism with the ability to crisply articulate positions and build rapport quickly. Ability to articulate points of view with executive management but execute plans when directed.
Expertise in market analysis and sourcing planning to dissect market size, players, customers, growth, technology replacements/forecasts, pricing trends, etc. to formulate sourcing strategies.
Expertise in Financial Statement Analysis to derive should-cost models and cost competitiveness/financial strengths of suppliers before RFx is conducted.
Bottom's up process costing utilizing Activity Based Costing and other methodologies to build should-cost models.
Superior project management skills (Consumer Electronics Integrated Project Management) and ability to deep dive to solve problems and manage tactical day-to-day activities.
Supply Chain Operation's Management expert. Ability to assess and improve factory SMT, test, box-build production costs through improved efficiencies and yields. Ability to assess and improve total landed cost through supply chain analysis from component supply base through to distribution channel.
Frequent travel required.
