The Sourcing team manages and leads global hardware and software component sourcing within the division. Our charter is to drive competitive cost advantage and ensure supply continuity.

Job Scope

As a key member of the Sourcing function within MSC (Manufacturing & Supply Chain) the successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing strategic packaging materials and components. He/she will set out a robust packaging procurement strategy which aligns with the MSC goals, namely aggressively managing costs, effectively delivering products and services and enabling scale and complexity. He/she will partner with key stakeholders in the Global Packaging design team and in Manufacturing to identify, develop and manage the optimum portfolio of packaging material suppliers, ensuring delivery of packaging which consistently meets or exceeds design, quality, cost and fit-for-use criteria.


The sourcing manager will be responsible for:

As member of the sourcing category team, developing and implementing globally a market-leading innovative sourcing strategy which is aligned to the MSC strategy and further on establishing the optimum portfolio of packaging suppliers to support the business at the right cost, capability and quality levels
Partnering with Global Packaging to understand current and future design and technology requirements, to qualify new suppliers and manage and improve quality and capability at existing ones providing competitive advantage for Microsoft. Provide timely cost of goods estimates for new initiatives
Partner with Manufacturing to create a world-class supply chain which continually drives improvements in quality, speed to market and security of supply
Deliver best in class total cost ownership via a thorough understanding of the market, cost modelling and expert negotiation
Build strong, transparent supplier relationships which position Microsoft as preferred customer

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

Several years' packaging material purchasing/sourcing experience in a consumer products industry
Experience with international business environment and especially with Chinese suppliers
Industry leading negotiation skills
Strong technical (engineering) expertise
High energy and impact and an ability to succeed in high-demand and high-stress environments

Join Microsoft in this amazing opportunity as a Supply Base Engineer in our Sourcing Organization, developing and executing marketing leading sourcing strategies across multiple products. This is truly a unique position that allows for high impact and the ability to lead cross-functional organizations through sourcing activities.

You will manage a team and be the business owner of the on MCU's, and Strategic IC's components category sourcing and will lead supplier relationships, including the management and negotiation of Global Purchase Agreements and related contractual executions.

Demonstrated ability to successfully navigate through ambiguities/difficult obstacles through facts, evaluation of alternatives, open-mindedness, thought-through strategy, and superior communications to LEAD cross-functional organizations through sourcing activities will be required. You must have the ability to both QUANTIFY and QUALIFY situations, making the most of what is provided.

The Manufacturing, and Supply Chain (MSC) organization is looking for a Sourcing Leader to manage the MCU and Strategic IC's category, and is therefore accountable for the execution of the following responsibilities:

o Create category sourcing strategy
o Develop and execute a market leading sourcing strategy in the MCU and Strategic IC's category via full market knowledge, supplier rationalization, predictable and industry leading commodity pricing plan, and total cost of ownership (TCO) cost modeling through transparent supplier relationship management
o Secure components and/or services in the MCU and Strategic IC's category that will provide competitive advantage in both technology and cost for Microsoft
o Deliver most aggressive and closest-to-the-pin costing and projections, with the ability to standup to the most aggressive alternatives, doubts, and scrutiny
o Business owner of this category and component supplier relationships, including the management and negotiation of contractual agreements and related negotiations and executions and communication with their manufacturing sites
o Drive change management to continuously improve efficiency and performances
o Develop supplier capabilities and drive roadmap visibility across Microsoft hardware businesses
o Manage the supply base end-to-end from inception to end-of-life
o Drive the supplier selection process and component qualification both under strict engineering and commercial best practices/disciplines
o Work collaboratively with other team members on many fronts, from initial qualification to end-of-life
o Achieve established commitments on total cost results, supply, quality and compliance adherence, and on-time delivery
In this role you must have:

o BA/B.Sc. or Equivalent Experience, preferably with Bachelors Degree in Engineering
o Global category management expertise in the semiconductor category, specifically for MCU's and Touch IC's
o Expertise in market analysis to dissect market size, players, customers, growth, technology replacements/forecasts, pricing trends, etc., to formulate sourcing strategies
o Contract and price negotiations excellence
o Must be a business professional with strong engineering expertise
o Deliver best in class total cost of ownership (TCO), continuity of supply (COS), and business relationship management; passionate about opportunities to establish new approach to sourcing
o Expertise in financial statement analysis to derive should-cost models and cost competitiveness/financial strengths of suppliers before RFx is conducted
o Superior project/timeline (Consumer Electronics Integrated Project Management) adherence experiences
o Expertise in supply chain operations flexibility/capacity constraints to articulate appropriate contractual terms and conditions and costs
o Relentless drive to overachieve and no-excuses professional, making the most of resources available, and a team player who can roll-up his/her sleeves to get the job done
o Demonstrated ability to think strategically but detailed oriented to support ideology with facts
o Ability to articulate points of view with executive management but execute plans when directed
o Highly intelligent to triangulate opinions to formulate action and execute
o Quick learner of Microsoft systems and processes
