The position is in the exciting areas of Surface and Microsoft Next Generation Hardware products (HoloLens, Microsoft Band, ect). The role, Sr. Product Cost Manager, is part of the Central Business Group, within the Manufacturing Supply Chain team (MSC).

This position drives sourcing and front end supply chain strategies for our next generation hardware across multiple business units. This is a unique leadership role in the MSC Organization which manages the business and the launch execution for incubation and development hardware products at Microsoft. The role has a high level of visibility and direct interaction strategically and tactically with executive-level business partners. The ideal candidate for this position will have strong experience in engineering and/or technical sourcing with professional program management experience. This person must have high-level communication skills and the ability to interact and influence across all levels of the organization.

The Product Cost Management (PCM) team engages at the very beginning of the development cycle to provide and manage product level cost targets. This role partners closely with product planning, development engineering, operations, finance and the sourcing functions to facilitate product feature trade-offs and drive cost reductions. The Product Cost Managers are accountable for the landed costs / Costs of Goods and Services (COGS) of the product and must proactively manage significant risk factors within the supply chain to ensure that the targets are met before launch. Successful candidates will have the right blend of technical and business acumen to develop and drive a 'design to cost' culture across the engineering and business teams. This position is an individual contributor role, however, strong leadership capabilities are necessary to drive and manage cross-functional teams to meet the business objectives. The PCM is the single point of truth on product COGS and associated risks and opportunities. Success for this position is measured through the individual's ability to lead the team to achieve program commitments on total cost, business viability, quality and on-time delivery through the product development lifecycle and generational designs.

Qualifications:
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in high technology mass production hardware industry.
- Experienced in validating and verifying complex hardware, sub-system designs and developing product and component-level specifications.
- Passionate about working within a competitive hardware operations culture.
- Willing to make tough or unpopular decisions and impact and influence other functions in support in support of joint business targets and goals.
- Ability to work independently and within a matrix environment; a self-starter.
- Strong combination of business and technical knowledge base.
- Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial, hands-on spirit.
- Exceptional leadership, particularly in complex, international, and cross-functional teams.
- Advanced conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage challenging expectations effectively and resolve conflicts efficiently.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communications (verbal and written) skills; project management experience.
- Broad and extensive supply chain experience, including sourcing of relevant raw and semi-finished materials and components, new product introduction, operations planning, factory management outsourcing, and manufacturing partnerships.
- Team player with deep cross-group collaboration and project management skills, with experience developing efficient work plans for complex projects involving many groups, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
