Role & Opportunity:

Sr. Mechanical Engineer (Tooling and Simulation)

Looking for a highly motivated and creative mechanical engineer, with an emphasis in tooling design, debug and process simulation. You will work in close cooperation with internal and external development teams during the concept, integration, testing, final verification, ramp-up, volume production and ramp down phases. You will be part of a cross-functional design team responsible for conceiving, designing and producing exciting new products.
Primary Job Responsibilities & Tasks:

Utilize advanced net shape process simulation to predict and optimize tool designs to meet product objectives
Develop tooling strategies and planning/tracking methods to support short, medium and long term volume needs while keeping costs in check and optimizing speed of execution

Support Mechanical project planning, tooling schedules, requirements definition, and error/risk management. You will participate in technical reviews and take responsibility for all mechanical related tasks in assigned development areas

Support all Mechanical aspects of the project with deliverables according to project plan, processes, requirements, specifications and objectives

Provide the technical guidance and direction necessary through authoritative decision making, integration and testing reviews as well as timely performance feedback to ensure that organization delivers an acceptable Mechanical design.

Provides longer term technical direction by coaching and mentoring others on the mechanical team to extend internal tooling development and simulation capabilities

Responsible for a total understanding of the Mechanical design architecture, from component/material selection, tool design to meet part objectives, concept design, design implementation, product verification, mass production quality control and customer acceptance

Provide guidance to mechanical program teams to prevent and solve tooling/manufacturability issues

Working with mechanical team, quality and manufacturing to optimize tooling process, efficiency and productivity without sacrificing on design objectives

Required to support first off tool trials, copy tool management and tooling transfer management

Scope of work:

Individual contributor, variety of complex tasks within area of responsibility, demonstrates initiative and contributes to problem solving and supervises supplier team on R&D process and quality control.

If necessary, able to take complete tool design ownership and solve issues and implement solution when partner/supplier resources are unable.

Acts with independence and discretion in routine matters. Plan and follow-up product development schedule and deliveries.

Makes decisions that affect own work and related teams.

A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is required. Masters preferred.

8+ years of experience in machine tool design

Competent in project management

Must be able to guide and coach others and be able to thrive in a combination of work modes, e.g., OEM, JRD or ODM

Good team player with effective verbal and written communication skills

Innovative thinking, high motivation, high energy and a customer service mentality

Excellent English communication skills

Demonstrated ability to use advanced simulation tools to predict tool performance of net shape process part designs prior to kick-off
8 or more years of experience in product design for medium and high volume products

Experience developing parts and assemblies in common 3D CAD tools

Knowledge of material and part fabrication process

Direct management of multi-national product development engineering teams preferred

Adept at root cause analysis, DFMEA, design for six sigma and systematic test methods

Finite Element Analysis proficiency preferred

Tolerance analysis proficiency preferred
Knowledgeable of business operating systems

Other Relevant Requirements:

International and domestic travel will be required, approximately: 50%

Able to participate in after-hours conference calls, due to time zone difference with other parts of Microsoft and oversea suppliers
