The Cloud Server Engineering team within WSSC (Windows Server and System Center) is responsible for server hardware definition, design and development of Server and Rack Infrastructure engineering for Microsoft's online services. We work closely with Microsoft product groups, industry partners and researchers to architect and develop server hardware solutions that meet the requirements for our cloud services platforms at the lowest possible cost of ownership (TCO).

To support this effort we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Thermal Engineer who can support our CSE group in Redmond. An ability to manage complex projects and design rigor against development timeline needs is required, and your excellent communication skills allow you to work seamlessly with teams across various engineering functions and geographies. As such, you are willing to travel internationally at times to support design and manufacturing activities. You must be able to work well with international contract manufacturers.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas -
Demonstrated electronics air cooling design at a server scale
CFD modeling, flow bench testing, and heat sink design
Fan performance/system performance design
Thermal prototype testing thermocouple/thermistor/anemometer Mach-ups with heaters and prototype parts
Demonstrated capability to oversee the thermal design of a system working with contracted partners
Troubleshooting and problem solving skills, thermal, power, mechanical
Experience with ProE CAD modeling in areas of Sheet metal, plastic design, Heat sink design with understanding of tolerance analysis
Experience in working in a multi-discipline team
Presentation skills, negotiation skills
B.S. Mechanical engineering, M.S. or PhD in related engineering discipline preferred.
Six or more years of product development experience, with at least five years designing assemblies for electronic devices.
