We are hiring within The Customer and Market Research (CMR) team which is one of the largest Market Research departments in the world and serves the company's core businesses. We are based at our HQ in Redmond, WA. We are close to and in constant contact with our business partners and our work has global reach and impact. We are seeking an experienced research and business consultant to deliver insights and drive business outcomes across a variety of corporate initiatives. The dynamic Microsoft environment requires flexible resources that can be deployed to address critical business objectives. This consultant is responsible for assisting in driving that success by delivering high-impact, actionable market insights to inform corporate strategy.

Responsibilities:
Deliver thought leadership through in depth analysis and research-based insights:
o Manage a rich intelligence and insights agenda
o Provide thought leadership on Social Intelligence as one way to help solve business issues - document and evangelize best practices through publications, conferences, training and outreach to stakeholders and research partners.
o Improve the Company's foundational knowledge regarding data analytics and business intelligence
o Consolidate and analyze new or existing data to tell stories including through social intelligence, transactional data, satisfaction data, campaigns, products and more.
o Provide insights for corporate initiatives
o Consult with other key marketers and decision-makers as needed
o Deliver key insights rooted in our Social Intelligence capabilities and integrated with other listening systems on the Microsoft brand, our strategies, products and the markets we support.
o Maintain and then grow our series of Social Intelligence publications through efficient use of vendor resources, critical analysis and incisive editing skills.

Foundational expertise as research analyst
Practiced Social Media intelligence and similar unstructured data to identify and synthesize insights
Experience building out a social intelligence discipline or practice
Proven ability to bring insights to life through a rich portfolio of data and marketing sciences
Strong business acumen and ability to derive strategic business implications from disparate forms of research
A strong passion for technology, consumer technology and social media trends
Critical thinking skills (e.g., the ability to conceptual frame problems and to identify creative solutions)
Must be comfortable working with a "blank sheet of paper" and can deal with ambiguity
Thrives in creating, building, and driving; being smart about leveraging what is there but also envisioning what isn't there
Polished communications, storytelling, and presentation skills including comfort with executive audiences
Experience in communicating complex data concepts to senior executives
Exceptional cross-group collaboration
Experience conducting & managing multi-faceted marketing analytic programs including study design, vendor management and project management
Contribute to building a research consulting organization that delivers actionable and relevant insights and drive tangible business outcomes.

Experience Required:
A Bachelor's Degree in social/marketing sciences, business or related field
7 to 10 years of market research or business analysis/consultation experience
The ideal candidate will also possess an MBA, MS or related graduate degree
2-5 years of experience in technology or a demonstrated understanding and interest in the technology business strongly preferred.

The Customer & Market Research team is looking for an individual to lead the development and advancement of a world class market research team and its research consultants. We want someone who can see ways to improve our practice, note capabilities that need development, and identify ways of working more effectively. We want someone who can build and manage the means, programs, or process to develop these capabilities and improved ways of working. And, we want someone who can effectively drive organizational change, ensuring the successful adoption of these new practices. And, we need someone who exhibits great agility - someone who can jump in to organizational issues or problems that arise, and provide thought leadership and drive solutions. Overall, we are looking for someone to help drive our organizational planning, development and ways of working, with the goal of making a world class market research team even better.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Leading the organizational capability planning process, to determine gaps in skills and competencies.
Developing and leading programs designed to build up specific skills and competencies (e.g., situational leadership, time management, research consultancy, storytelling), and ways of working (e.g., global cross-team collaboration).
Managing our organization's onboarding program
Facilitating strong, effective working relationships across teams (both within our organization, as well with other organizations in MSFT).
Driving the benchmarking of our market research team with other centralized market research organizations in other companies.
Position Requirements and desired competencies:
The ideal candidate will have a proven record of leading and managing organizational development initiatives. A background in market research and/or business consulting is also strongly desired. Excellent communication skills, the ability to lead organizational change, and a natural aptitude at educating and consulting are imperatives.
10+ years of business experience
5+ years of market research or business consulting experience strongly desired
Managerial experience desired
Proven ability to build and manage organizational programs
Strong project management and excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
Strong business acumen
Excellent communication and influencing skills
Exceptional cross-group collaboration skills
Thrives in creating, building, and driving projects to conclusion; being smart about leveraging what is there but also envisioning what isn't.
Undergraduate degree required, with a preference for a graduate degree in Social Sciences or MBA.
