Senior Content Manager, Research & Innovation
Are you passionate about storytelling and creating online experiences? Can you ferret out the great storytelling opportunities from within one of the world's pre-eminent research organizations? Can you write a blog post about deeply technical subject matter that draws the reader in by making the complex interesting and clear. If so, come help shape and influence storytelling related to Microsoft's research and overall approach to innovation.
The Corporate Communications Image team seeks an experienced multimedia writer and editor to work as part of a dynamic team of storytellers focused on the company's technology and research organization, and the company's overall innovation agenda. This individual will work closely with other members of the Research & Innovation team to develop compelling stories (text, video, audio) that breakthrough to our key target audiences.
Key responsibilities include writing, editing, filming, taping, strategizing, developing and delivering rich Web content to a worldwide audience of researchers, academics, journalists, analysts, influencers and others following and reporting on news about the company. This role requires an individual who combines the skills of a seasoned writer/editor with the organization and tactical execution of an experienced project manager to create the most effective, targeted content and deliver it with power and elegance. Candidates should be extremely organized, self-motivated individuals with great multimedia communication skills and the ability to dig into complex technical subjects.
Candidates should also have a strong understanding of how news and information flows on the Web today, with experience in driving reach and engagement via content syndication and amplification - Blogging, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, search, etc. should all be things you are intimately familiar with (and use) so you can help advance the company's storytelling efforts. You should understand how content maps to a broader marketing strategy, and how to best influence and drive readers to take action.
- Write, film, tape, edit stories for Microsoft corporate channels, and Next at Microsoft>
- Work directly with researchers, engineers and other stakeholders to
develop breakthrough storytelling content that helps move perceptions
about Microsoft's ability to innovate in a mobile-first, cloud-first world.
Our content manager will develop effective, compelling, newsworthy
digital content (feature articles, infographics, slide shows/photo galleries
and videos) that inspires readers and encourages media outlets to utilize
our content, or develop their own.
- Partner and collaborate with editorial calendar owner on publication
timing, complementary assets and amplification efforts. For your content,
own updating the weekly calendar for research and innovation that
spans Microsoft and integrates into strategic Corporate Communications

Required Skills:
- Minimum of 3-5 years online multimedia content development and
publishing experience
- Journalism/PR background strongly preferred; thorough knowledge of AP
Style, copyediting and proofreading skills
- Portfolio/writing, video samples demonstrating content development and
editing expertise
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Microsoft web and editorial experience a plus
- Photography and Photoshop skills also a plus
- Professional or personal experience/expertise with Web content
management, social, blogging and other technologies
