Student Developers are future innovators, entrepreneurs, technical decision-makers, and influencers who play a key role in determining Microsoft's platform relevancy today and into the future. Passionate and enabled Student Developers inside a school system have the ability to influence and excite other Students on Microsoft technologies by the thousands. Students can create demand to fuel the education ecosystem with Microsoft energy, which drives applications, devices and services adoption, making them integral to Microsoft's transformation to a productivity, mobile, and cloud leader in the market place. To secure a role in the next set of technology trends, it is imperative that Microsoft participate in the student developer ecosystem as students create and adopt the next wave of "big things".

The DX Student Developer Team is seeking a top talent to drive our marketing strategy and execution. This strategic global role will be responsible for driving the marketing plan for empowering top student developers to acquire the tools they need, the skills and education to compete in a mobile first, cloud first world, plus enthusiasm and affinity for the Microsoft platform.

Our mission is to drive preference for Microsoft technologies, supported by the right skills with STEM-D students in K-12 as well as higher-education. We are fighting for mindshare amidst a sea of devices, programs, platforms and services; it's a highly dynamic and competitive marketspace. The successful candidate will devise and deliver a Marketing strategy that thoughtfully moves us towards clearly outlined goals and success metrics by assessing and evaluating key research, building cross-Microsoft partnership opportunities, and deeply understanding our threats, opportunities and constraints for the next 3-5 years.

Marketing Strategy:

Day to day this role will drive the year-round marketing work, which includes:

- Understand the power of brand and the importance of capturing not just the minds, but also the hearts of young consumers

- Drive brand awareness and alignment both internally as well as externally

- Shift perception and drive adoption of products and programs through cutting edge marketing initiatives

- Plan and execute demand generation & marketing campaigns for Microsoft Imagine and the program portfolio delivering a strong ROI

- Create and deliver marketing build of materials that account for global usage as well as align to brand and messaging

- Participate in cross company v-teams to drive One Microsoft approach to marketing to students

- Strong grasp of social networking and trends, and understanding what all the cool kids are up to these days and how to effectively reach them

- Excellent communication skills that allows you to synthesize strategic messages into key value proposition for the audience

- Constant innovation on how to globally scale programs, leveraging our digital assets

- Analyze industry and competitive programs and evaluate research to evolve and enhance the marketing campaigns

- Work with our subsidiaries around the world, empowering the Field marketing efforts who are your 'feet on the street' locally bringing your marketing campaigns to life

- Working with the PR team and the group's broader overall editorial calendar so the marketing initiatives align to the broader Developer

Audience strategy:

- Ability to produce messaging and value prop frameworks for our marketing initiatives that conveys the alignment to the DX scorecard and mission

- And probably most important for the short term, the successful candidate will need to devise a net new marketing strategy to find and develop a relationship with the K-12 audience, a new target for us in addition to higher-education

Competitive Positioning & Response:

- Monitors competitors and their student developer marketing and evangelism strategies, and then create and execute competitive plans and response strategies

- Results demonstrate plans with sustainable differentiators, and contingency tactics for competitive scenarios.

Key Qualifications:

- You must have a creative and open-minded approach to strategic marketing and display the ability to challenge convention. The ideal candidate will be forward thinking and have the analytical ability to articulate a strategic vision and then deliver against it.

- The candidate must have a passion for encouraging young technologists, and a strong understanding of our products targeted at this demographic including Visual Studio, Kodu, TouchDevelop, and Project Spark.

- Technical knowledge of software development platforms, languages, middleware, and tools is a plus so you have authority with our audience.

You will also need a proven track record for running successful demand generation campaigns targeting a net-new audience as well as working with large numbers of international partners and will demonstrate the ability to influence and gain credibility with global field leaders and their teams to drive new behaviors, strategies and impact.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years in the technology marketing space as well as experience working with software developers. MBA preferred. A background marketing within the STEM-D education space and/or a STEM-D degree is a plus.
