Are you passionate about working with Big Data to solve complex business problems that directly impact our customers and our revenue? Are you excited about envisioning and constructing complex data sets to answer critical questions based off of customer data?

Welcome to the Data Engineering team within Marketing's Consumer Data, Devices and Analytics Group. We focus on developing Business Intelligence (BI), Customer Intelligence (CI), and Social Intelligence (SI) analytical research for the Xbox, Surface and new consumer devices, like the recently launched MS Band wearable. Our many business partners include the Product Marketing, Live Subscription, Xbox Live, Xbox Store, Public Relations, MarCom, Strategy, and Business Development teams.

We are looking for a senior Software/Database Engineer to:
Work closely with our business partners to efficiently and accurately craft their inbound business requirements that will service a wide range of BI, CI, SI analytical questions and reporting needs. Our customer subject areas typically include device usage, application usage, and purchasing behaviors.
Determine, discover and mine a vast array of user-grain telemetry data sets required to support a wide range of business needs.
Create complex data models and then materialize those associated data shapes in COSMOS, SQL, etc.
Strive for maximum business impact for all delivered work products.

Qualifications: A Successful candidate should:
Strong decision making and critical thinking ability; able to develop unique methods of data shaping and analysis where traditional methods do not yield results; Exceptional ability to extract simple, yet accurate, inferences out of complex business situations with the ability to keep focus on the big picture with a clear understanding of business impact.

Required Skills:
A BSCS/MSCS or equivalent in Engineering.
Proven hands-on multi-year experience in SQL, COSMOS, Excel, Power Pivot, AND C# is a MUST. This includes developing, DQ/debugging and maintaining code. The entry bar is very high for these job-critical technologies.
Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills and proven and expert skill using Excel for analysis is a MUST.
Demonstrated history of innovative thinking and problem solving skills in Big Data problems.
Be self-driven and show the ability to deliver on ambiguous projects with incomplete requirements and disconnected data sets.
Excellent communication and interpersonal soft skills. Ability to communicate complicated analysis and insights to non-technical audiences. Detailed analytical presentations to leadership teams are a common occurrence in this team.
Familiarity with statistical models & methods (time-series analysis, regression analysis, experimental design, hypothesis testing, etc.) is a big plus.
