The Microsoft Devices Design Studio is building a world class in-house design team. This is the team that creates delightful experiences for millions of people around the world. We are looking for passionate designers who aspire to craft state of the art hardware including Xbox, wearable devices and new product categories.

Primary Responsibilities

You will be responsible for driving high fidelity ID execution through detailed product design process, including: technical conceptualization, prototyping, complex 3D surfacing and form development, integration and refinement with engineering, and successful project management into production. This position will require a hands-on collaborative person who will build strong partnerships across Design, Engineering, Planning, and Research, to deliver innovative end to end solutions.

Requirements

BS with a minimum of 8 years of industrial design, product design, and/or mechanical engineering experience within a product design organization
Strong knowledge and skillset in all phases of design, engineering, & overall hardware product development process. Ability to span from system level architecture conceptualization through detailed manufacturing review.
Deep technical knowledge around injection molding, high-volume metal fabrication processes, materials, electronics, and other technical elements of the process.
Expert in Class A surfacing, whether driving Alias, Rhino, Solidworks, or Pro/Engineer.
Experience in a product development consulting environment is required, as well as experience designing within a collaborative ID/engineering setting.
A strong portfolio demonstrating breadth and creativity in successful product design, versatility with design and rapid prototyping tools and methods, and a strong understanding of design and creative process.
Ability to source and vet emerging technologies and manufacturing processes to enable design leadership in our target markets.
Experience developing and managing relationships with internal and external partners including suppliers, technical alliances, and key customers or clients.
Additional experience in a secondary field such as EE or SW is advantageous but not required, as is the ability to mock up functional prototypes that span ME, EE and UX (eg. Arduino).
