The Microsoft Xbox Team is responsible for a wide array of products including Xbox 360 and Xbox One game consoles, Kinect, high-performance game controllers, and gaming headsets. We are looking for a Principal Audio Engineer with expertise in audio product design, acoustics and headset development to enable world-class consumer electronic products.

As a successful candidate, you enjoy working with cross functional engineering teams and driving system-level and sub-system designs through fast-paced product development cycles. The role allows you to develop and deliver results to demanding acoustic problems using modern techniques and methods. You enjoy pairing your audio hardware and acoustic design with mechanical assemblies, electronics and DSP to bring to life compelling and innovative user experiences.

Your work experience includes a minimum of ten years in audio/acoustic product design, with at least seven years in the consumer product industry. You are expert in sound capture, processing and playback and knowledgeable with microphone technologies and the design and modeling of speaker systems. Additionally, you are knowledgeable in audio algorithms and are well-versed in: the physics of sound propagation including the effects of diffraction, vibration, radiation and directivity; the architecture of noise suppression and acoustic echo reduction systems; sound source localization and tracking with microphone arrays; and the end-to-end processing of speech signals including quality metrics. Experience with industry standard test and validation tools, such as Klippel, LMS, AP, and/or Head Acoustics is a plus.

With confidence in your broad understanding of audio market trends, you enjoy influencing planning, marketing and business stakeholders as they develop multi-year product and technology roadmaps.

A track record of innovation and experience in selecting material and components to achieve cost targets is desired. The establishment of specifications and written test plans, including the development of test procedures to verify your designs are integral to the position.

An ability to manage complex projects and CM's, against development timeline needs, is required, and your excellent communication skills allow you to work seamlessly with teams across various engineering functions and geographies. As such, you are willing to travel internationally at times to support design and manufacturing activities.

Qualification Summary:

M.S. in acoustics, audio engineering, electrical engineering or physics, with specialty in sound capture, playback, processing and audio system design.

Ten years of audio product development experience, with at least seven years designing for high-volume consumer electronic devices.

Project lead experience on at least two audio consumer electronics products that successfully reached volume production.

Demonstrated ability to drive complex audio/acoustic system trade-offs by partnering across engineering teams.
