The Microsoft Xbox Team is responsible for a wide array of products including Xbox 360 and Xbox One game consoles, Kinect, high-performance optics, and gaming accessories. We are looking for an Optical HW Test Engineer develop and execute system level optical testing on world-class consumer electronic products.

This resource should have extensive HW test experience with consumer electronics products; experience testing optical HW a plus.

Core responsibilities:

This Optical Test Engineer will focus on development of software test tools to be used for test of optical hardware.

This effort will include designing optical test techniques and methods, writing test plans, developing and implementing innovative software tools and processes to validate optical component and system level optical hardware performance.

Ensure product quality and manufacturing readiness by identifying the need for and implementing improvements within the design, development, release, and manufacturing of optical hardware tools and products.

This position requires a unique set of skills spanning both the hardware and software test disciplines.

The successful candidate will feel comfortable directing their deep programming skills towards assessing optical hardware performance metrics in environments varying from highly controlled lab scenarios to the unlimited variability of customer living rooms.

This software focused HW Design Verification Engineer will interface directly with various software development groups to understand their unique test environments and ensure close collaboration in analysis of device performance from both the hardware and software perspectives.

This engineer will correlate test results from software development applications to specific optical hardware performance characteristics and recommend appropriate corrective actions as necessary.

This position also requires close integration with Optical Development Engineers during the optical hardware development process, designing and implementing test tools to support component and subsystem level optical tests.

Optical systems will include digital sensors, imaging optics, lasers and LED light sources.

Other responsibilities will include development of:

- Test and characterization methods for optical components, modules, and systems;
- Specification and acceptance criteria;
- Optical test plans and technical reports;
- User test scenario definitions;
- Direct contract vendor test tool development activities;
- New engineering concepts for future products;

Requirements:

- BS in computer science or engineering or equivalent
- 3 years of SW test tool development experience
- Working knowledge of test methodologies and techniques
- Strong foundation in computer science and software design skills
- Demonstrated C++/C#/OOP development and debugging skills
- Strong problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills
- Experience in hi-tech consumer electronics products; Familiarity with Xbox, Kinect, or Xbox Accessories a plus
- Basic knowledge of optics, imaging, photography, lasers, etc.
- Experience with Imatest, Labview, and especially Matlab, desired
- Deep understanding of statistical analysis methodologies and tools such as JMP and MS Excel desired
