The Surface video team is recruiting for a camera imaging engineer to provide image pipeline tuning to provide the best customer experience across the expected range of camera use conditions. Daily work includes assessing camera systems, performing camera tuning with software tools and preparing optimized camera tuning settings based on image sensor and ISP capabilities.

Requirements include:
BS, MS or PhD in EE, Color Science or equivalent is required
At least two years of relevant experience in imaging, video or display processing
Hands-on experience in design, development and launch of high-volume consumer electronic products is a plus.
Demonstrated working knowledge of image, video and display processing including noise reduction, image scaling, frame rate conversion, tone curves, color spaces and color calibration.
Knowledge of digital signal processing and its applications to image and video processing.
Knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl and/or Python.
Experience in the psychophysics and human preferences of image quality as they relate to electronic image capture and processing.

As an Electrical Engineer in the team, you will be responsible for all aspects of product-level hardware engineering related to product design. You will work with other in-house and contract engineers to define and document the product architecture, write technical specifications, lead design reviews, and manage development partners to deliver the final manufacturing-ready electrical design including microprocessors, analog circuitry, displays, user interfaces, and power subsystems. You will be responsible for following Microsoft's product development processes and best practices.

Qualified candidates must have understanding and some experience in designing and developing high volume consumer electronics products, from concept to manufacturing, Candidates should have a good understanding of PC architecture, knowledge of hardware product development processes and quality requirements of consumer electronic products, knowledge on hardware testing, and familiar with high volume manufacturing process and test.

As a member of the team, a successful candidate has effective written and oral communication skills, cross-organizational and some project management skills, and good technical design knowledge.

Responsibilities include
Circuit design and analysis
Partner with internal and external customers and cross-group functions like User Research, Mechanical Engineering, and Marketing to identify product requirements, drive product feature prioritization and trade-offs (cost/schedule/risk) and establish production release criteria.
Understand and be able to develop prototypes with digital and analog building blocks like MCUs, DC-DC converters, ADCs, DACs, PWMs I2C, SPI, etc. Manage bring-up, verification and debug of new hardware platforms.
Implement rapid prototypes for evaluation and demonstration of product ideas or technology concepts that integrate Microsoft hardware, firmware, software and services assets.


Skills and Qualifications
Demonstrated hardware engineering experience with microprocessor based systems and the ability to move from high level vision, to design implementation
Experience designing moderate to hiplexity hardware products.
Minimum 5 years of experience in hardware development and contributed to multiple product development cycles
3 years of experience with design tools (Spice, Orcad, Cadence Allegro/CIS); familiarity with PC and embedded systems architectures
Product level FW experience a plus
Experience with component selection.
Works well with cross functional groups including Industrial Design, Marketing, planning and user research.
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge and experience with standard communication protocols such as USB/I2C/SPI/UARTs preferred
BS in Electrical Engineering required and MS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering even better :)
Must be enthusiastic, motivated and self-driven

As a Power Subsystem EE for Batteries and Power Supplies, you will be working on the latest technology to give Surface products energy sources that are compact, lightweight, and cool. To be successful, you will need to collaborate across a variety of internal functional groups and also with external development partners. Minimum requirements:
- BSEE or equivalent, at least 3 years of experience in power electronics role
- Proficiency with power PCB layout and analysis
- Ability to analyze and simulate circuits to guarantee safety, performance and reliability
- Proficiency testing and debugging the high-power, analog and digital systems in smart batteries and PSUs or similar systems
- Demonstrated track record working with overseas suppliers, preferably in high-volume products
- Experience translating system-level requirements into component-level requirements
- Ability to contribute constructively to technical debate that leads to better designs

Role & Opportunity:
We are looking for an Electrical. Engineer to focus on motherboard and associated electrical system design for next generation Surface products. A strong mix of technical breadth and depth will allow you to work cross-functionally with different disciplines (Industrial Design, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, Software and Firmware) to develop compelling innovative products. You will design and develop circuits, select key strategic components and that encompasses the entire product.

Key responsibilities:
Develop Schematics and BOM to meet the design requirements.
Analyze the design with simulation tools and calculations to verify its conformance to the design requirements.
Collaborate with mechanical engineering, firmware, hardware verification, and many other engineering and design disciplines to optimize the overall system of the product from concept to completion in the factory
Work with suppliers, contractors, and engineering services to ensure that the product is developed on time with high quality
Design, build and test rapid prototypes for evaluation of new product ideas or technology concepts.
Conduct design/debug investigations and support development, maintenance, failure analysis, and resolution activities.
Develop project documentation including specifications, schematic diagrams, PCB layouts, schedules and presentations to meet requirements and communicate the electrical design and its progress

Requirements:
Minimum BS/MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
8+ years of experience designing, implementing, and shipping high volume consumer electronics products of medium to hiplexity.
Hands-on design experience preferred in analog/ digital electronics ranging from: RF, analog, digital, audio, video, power, electromechanical, low power, charging, touch display, and sensors.
Experience preferred with x86 PC architectures and implementation of high speed serial busses (SATA, PCIe, USB) and/or high speed parallel busses such as: memory bus (DDR2/3, etc.)
Proficient in high speed digital design, signal integrity, layout, RF/EMI mitigation techniques, and power distribution techniques of modern processors
Strong problem solving and debugging skills with a solid understanding of core engineering principles, fundamental circuit design, and analytical techniques is required.
Strong communication skills required, including the ability to clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms.
Design for manufacturing and test experience in a high volume manufacturing environment preferred.
Domestic and international travel may be required.

The Surface team is looking for a self-motivated electrical engineer who will participate the system motherboard design team. The responsibilities of this position include designing analog and digital mixed signal circuitry for a system that may contain high performance CPU, GPU, high speed buses such as PCIe, DP, USB3, power management and delivery circuitries, DDR, SSD, and flash storage. This position requires the ability to generate schematics and PCB layout requirements and to work with the CAD engineer to implement a board level circuit design that meets all system requirements. Must be a good team player who is has strong communication skills, has the ability to learn quickly, analyze and implement new solutions. Knowledge of complex motherboard designs and direct past experiences in the areas of component and design tolerance analysis, power dissipation and failure modes effects and analysis are big pluses.

Qualifications:
A solid understanding of core engineering principles, circuit design and analysis are required.
Minimum 5 years of experiencing designing, implementing, and shipping products of medium to hiplexity. Knowledge of high volume consumer electronics design and manufacturing is desired.
Hand on design and implementation experience with board level circuit design (transmission lines, SI, EMI, ESD), prototype, bring up and debug.
Knowledge and experience with implementation of high speed serial busses such as USB, SATA, and PCIe is a big plus.
Familiar with common engineering CAD package (Cadence, OrCAD, etc.) and electronic test equipment for system validation.
Good knowledge in EMI, ESD testing for regulatory compliance.
Strong communication skills and must be able to clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms, (English/Chinese bilingual is a plus)
Minimum BS in Electrical Engineering, MS is preferred.
