Applied Sciences is an applied research and development team dedicated to creating the next generation of computer interaction technologies. The interdisciplinary group focuses on the synergy between optics, vision, electronics and software to create novel human computer interfaces that exploit cutting edge techniques to understand more about the human and the environment. The team supports several projects for Microsoft Surface, Hardware, Xbox and other business groups and works extensively with Microsoft Research.

We are currently looking for a mad scientist/ inventor/ wizard/ researcher with expertise in the area of machine learning to join our computer vision research efforts. A lot of our work is focused in the areas of semantic scene understanding, object and activity recognition, classification and development of low level features for a variety of vision problems. We have state of the art tools that implement various learning frameworks, and will look to you for enriching it further. Scientists are expected to define their own research agenda and demonstrate their ability to drive forward an effective program of research.

As a vision researcher in Applied Sciences, you work on a relatively small team, and will be collaborating closely with Microsoft Research and several product groups. This will provide you with the opportunity to take your ideas from research to prototype to possibly product at a very fast pace. You will also be able to choose your projects based on evolving interests and needs.

Qualifications:
M.S. or Ph.D. with expertise in topics related to machine learning (such as object/ shape/ activity recognition, classifications, neural networks).
Strong publication record in computer vision conferences and journals.
Experience writing code in C, C++, Python, Matlab.
A strong drive to experiment, prototype and improve.
The ability to clearly communicate what work you have done, why it was important and how it was different from other projects.
Creativity coming up with ideas and clever solutions to problems, as well as turning around and building them.
