Communications success at Microsoft relies on effective coordination and execution of communications strategies and plans around the world. This effort is centered with the Global Communications team. The Global Comms team supports Microsoft's business and image goals through a unified global communications program that strengthens the role of communications and multiplies our storytelling impact. Our team helps the Field communications team to scale the Microsoft story globally through strategic, hi-impact engagement with worldwide media and industry influencers.

We are looking for talented individuals who are passionate about the international press/influencers and internal audiences, enabling local communications teams that manage those relationships and helping to bridge content between the local communications teams with the Corporate Communications team.

Scope of Work:

This position requires strategic communications skills, analytical insights, and event management experience. Success will rely on effectively partnering with and supporting global communications teams, corporate communications and key stakeholders to define priorities and provide ongoing strategic counsel to improve the overall quality of comms in the Field. The position is also responsible for working with Field teams and corporate comms teams to mitigate emerging issues; and identifying resources and content that will help the field in efforts to shape perceptions and support subsidiary business objectives.

oDrive bespoke programs that help the field land blockbuster coverage that can't be generated independently in-market.
oDevelop and execute Underground Tours/Campus Visits for international media and influencers to gain a behind-the-scenes look at Microsoft. Pull together compelling content and stories to bring the company's culture and innovation to life.
oManage the Foreign Correspondent program.
oBuild international experience at Microsoft key moment events.
oAnticipate, manage, and mitigate communications issues; support subsidiaries and areas in driving their news agenda; contribute to the ongoing transformation of the communications discipline at Microsoft.
oParticipate in our overall storytelling impact in driving a focused field news agenda that scales effectively and is tightly aligned to the company's business & marketing objectives.
oEquip Field communications leads & execs with the right assets at the right time, to tell the company's most important stories.
oProvide guidance and intel to Corporate Comms team to enable stronger partnership between product communications teams at Corp and the Field communications team.
oEvaluate the effectiveness of content in meeting organizational goals.
oPartner with communications leads and Regional Leads to execute on the regional and global communications agendas and priorities.
oWork with corporate communications teams to ensure content delivery in support of key announcements and initiatives; act as trusted advisor, coach.
oAssisting the team as needed, optimize content and process to enable timely, effective localization of corporate assets for the company's most important outreach efforts.
oReview and post PR Advisories.

Qualifications:

Candidates should be natural collaborators; have a solid understanding of business and technology; are able to create, communicate, and implement effective and efficient communications processes; possess maturity and confidence in working with and influencing senior Microsoft executives; are able to build strong connections and relationships and are experienced at implementing new ideas that add to the ongoing transformation of the comms discipline at Microsoft.

oFive to eight years of experience in a communications role.
oBachelor's degree in Communications, English, Marketing, or a related field
oInternal, external, digital and global communications experience preferred.
oStrong writing, communications planning, event management and storytelling skills
oAble to influence and achieve results without having direct authority
oExperience in strategy development and working collaboratively across multiple teams, time zones and stakeholders.
oStorytelling capabilities and key message creation skills
oAble to understand the communications and key partner teams' complex and geographic needs; and have excellent written and oral communication skills to synthesize multifaceted issues into easy-to-understand concepts.
oDemonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills and ability to accommodate working styles and perspectives of diverse individuals. Able to be trusted with the knowledge and handling of confidential information.
oWork independently to achieve results with a high degree of accuracy. Build effective working relationships inside and outside of the group and across the globe that involve contact at all levels of management.
oStrong problem solving skills/judgment, able to make confident, informed decisions and recommendations; able to anticipate difficult situations and to proactively plan appropriate actions. Able to move forward in the face of ambiguity and imperfect knowledge, be detail oriented and data focused.

- Working closely with the SMSG team and Tim O'Brien's LT, develop annual Communications Team operating model and taxonomy.

- Help to build a world-class Field communications workforce by ensuring the company is making the right investments in the discipline, and that teams are staffed, leveled and funded appropriately.

- Partnering with Janelle Poole's Business Management team, provide skills training for Field communications leads of all levels; provide meaningful professional development opportunities for high-potential employees; ensure they have clear career paths within the company.

- Galvanize relationships among our Field comms leads and make their experience great by hosting forums (physical and virtual ) that bring teams together and strengthen peer-to-peer support; build lightweight programs that promote idea exchange and accelerate best practice adoption; and recognize and celebrate great work. Events include MGX, International track at the Communications Summit, among others.

- Create and maintain content guidelines for content producers across the organization.

- Anticipate, manage, and mitigate communications issues; support subsidiaries and areas in driving their news agenda; contribute to the ongoing transformation of the communications discipline at Microsoft.
