We are looking for an Audio Design Hardware Engineer to be a key part of our team


- MS degree or equivalent.

- Minimum 2 years of experience in audio product development.

- Understanding acoustics, microphones, and audio test equipment and methodology.

- Strong experience and knowledge in audio performance simulation and prototyping with CAD tools.

- Strong skill-set in analytical problem solving.

- Must be enthusiastic, motivated and self-driven.


The Microsoft HoloLens Team is looking for an audio design engineer that can drive and make great contribution to the audio subsystem design for our current and new products. The primary responsibilities for the position involve defining new audio hardware acoustic specification, developing the simulation models for acoustic components and subsystems, performing simulations on the audio performance, and provide guidance to the rest of the design team for critical component selection and qualification. He/she will also work closely with other functional teams including mechanical and thermal team, build system level acoustic model and simulate the overall system level audio performance, provide design suggestions for system level mechanical and thermal design optimization.

As a successful candidate, you enjoy working with cross functional engineering teams and driving system-level and sub-system designs through fast-paced product development cycles. The role allows you to develop and deliver results to demanding acoustic problems using modern techniques and methods. You enjoy pairing your audio hardware and acoustic design with mechanical assemblies, electronics, and DSP, to bring to life compelling and innovative user experiences.

You are expert in CAE tools, Acoustic, Aero acoustic and Structure modeling (applied to microphones and speakers design). Additionally, you are knowledgeable in audio and are well-versed in the physics of sound propagation including the effects of diffraction, vibration, radiation and directivity. In order to interact with other engineering teams, you are able to understand the main principles in the architecture of noise suppression and acoustic echo reduction systems; sound source localization and tracking with microphone arrays; and the end-to-end processing of speech signals including quality metrics.

Part of your job would be to select material and components to achieve cost targets and desired performance. The establishment of specifications, including the development of test procedures to verify your designs are integral to the position.

An ability to manage complex projects and CM's, against development timeline needs, is required, and your excellent communication skills allow you to work seamlessly with teams across various engineering functions and geographies. As such, you are willing to travel internationally at times to support design and manufacturing activities.

As a qualified candidate for this position you must have a solid track record in audio product design for high volume mobile, or wearable, consumer electronics products.

Additional requirements include:

- Solid hands on experience in developing acoustic models

- Conducting simulation for complex audio systems.

- Solid knowledge of hardware product development processes and quality requirements of consumer electronic products.

- Effective written and oral communication skills.

- Very good cross-organizational collaboration skills.
